Recent highlights include the <strong>Sergeant <\/strong>in <strong>Rossini&#8217;s&nbsp;<em>The Barber of Seville&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong>(Minnesota Opera), the <strong>Notary <\/strong>in <strong>Donizetti&#8217;s&nbsp;<em>Don Pasquale<\/em><\/strong><em>&nbsp;<\/em>and <strong>Baritone Vocal Fellow with Lakes Area Music Festival<\/strong>, the <strong>title role<\/strong> in <strong>Verdi\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Falstaff<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;(Opera Reading Project), <strong>Pa Zegner<\/strong> in <strong>Mazzoli\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Proving Up<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;(Journey North Opera Company), and <strong>Junius <\/strong>in <strong>Britten\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Lucretia<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;(AOT Opera Theatre).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Joel grew up in White Bear Lake, MN, studied voice with John De Haan at the University of Minnesota, and currently resides in Minneapolis with his husband Chris, their dog Blair, and cats Shadow and Oliver.&nbsp; Joel currently studies with Dennis Petersen at 480 Arts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>APPEARS INThese Strangers Joel Matthias is a Minnesota-based baritone.
